Local sustainability leader announces candidacy for Ward 5

Long time Kitchener resident Andres Fuentes has registered to run for Kitchener city council in Ward 5. Fuentes is a graduate of the University of Waterloo, and is currently a candidate for a Masters in Climate Change. Fuentes brings a breadth of political experience, having worked on national campaigns for Michael Ignatieff and Barack Obama, as well as countless municipal campaigns.

Fuentes has been involved in climate initiatives since 2008. He has worked with climate newswire service The Verb and is currently working with international NGO, Climate Action Network International.

Fuentes is deeply involved in the community. He has worked with the KW Multicultural Festival for the past two years, is the CEO of local campus newspaper Imprint Publications, served on the Waterloo citizens environmental advisory committee, and has been involved in various local initiatives with the United Way.

Fuentes has a vision for a sustainable, livable, and growing Kitchener. Enacting this vision includes ensuring infrastructure encourages active transportation, affordable housing, accessible community spaces, and ambitious environmental initiatives.

Fuentes looks forward to meeting with community members over the next few months to engage voters on how the city of Kitchener can do better.
